Through the course “Electrical Systems for Photovoltaic Power Plants,” Scatec trained 120 women as solar module assemblers.
The challenge
We identified the need to train women in rural communities, who had no expectations of professional work because their experience was limited to domestic activities. Many of them did not see themselves occupying positions that were traditionally predominantly held by men. This gap was seen as an opportunity for inclusion and empowerment, providing them with new possibilities for professional development and entry into the job market.
How we worked together
Overall, 240 women were trained, with 120 in photovoltaic module assembly. Twenty months after graduation, 76% of the participants secured jobs in the energy sector, with 52% still employed in technical or related roles.
Key results
- 120Empowered women
- 33775$ invested by Scatec
- 5Communities benefiting
- 76Participants employed after the programme (%)
“When women occupy spaces that were previously reserved only for men, they often must show more competence to guarantee their jobs. It’s very gratifying to see women, hundreds of them, occupying these positions at Mendubim, exposed to the same risks as other employees, and not to have a single record of accidents involving them.“

Mendubim, Brazil, 531 MW
The Mendubim solar plant (comprised of several projects) is Scatec’s second operation in Brazil, developed in partnership with Equinor and Hydro Rein. All three partners have an equal economic interest of 30 percent in the project and jointly provided EPC services. Alunorte holds the remaining 10 percent. Scatec will provide O&M as well as Asset Management services to the power plant together with the partners.
