In Hanover, Scatec has opened an iCentre to provide computers and internet access for youth. We also added solar PV on the roof of the building to help with load-shedding.
The challenge
Youth in Hanover have limited access to computers and internet. In addition, load-shedding continues to be a challenge.
How we worked together
We set up a 16 kW solar system with an 11 kW battery and invertor. There are 11 computers with free internet access and low rates on printing and scanning services. The centre is primarily used by youth in the community to complete school work and by the unemployed to apply for jobs. Correspondence students also use the centre for online examinations.
As a meeting space for youth, the centre also collaborates with the Ministry of Health to provide free condoms and ecological sanitary products such as renewable pads.
