Botswana
In the communities of Selebi Phikwe, Mmadinare and Mapakata, Scatec has implemented a comprehensive capacity building programme aimed at women and youth. The project is designed to be sustainable through ongoing training and support, market linkages and capacity building strategies.
The challenge
A needs assessment conducted during the construction phase of the project revealed a need for education and skills development trainings to increase employability in the communities around site, particularly amongst youth and women. A second major finding was the need for GBVH and HIV/AIDS awareness.
How we worked together
In partnership with NGO Humana People to People, Scatec is implementing a women’s digital hub, computer studies trainings, business and marketing upskilling, as well as GROW groups to increase women’s economic empowerment. In addition, awareness campaigns are conducted on GBVH and HIV/AIDS. To date, the programme has reached over 800 participants across Selebi Phikwe, Mmadinare and Mapakata.
The programme reinforces Scatec’s commitment to long-term, community-owned socio-economic development.

- 103Graduates across all training programmes
- 42Participants completed computer studies courses
- 40Participants completed entrepreneurship and business training
