Capacity building for local farmers

In Agua Fria, Scatec worked with two neighboring solar parks and the National Training Institute, INFOP, to provide an Animal Health training and an Organic Fertilizer training for community members. Each training consisted of over 90 hours of theory and practice.

The challenge

In the neighboring communities to our Agua Fria plant, cows died and became ill due to a lack of knowledge around cattle health. In addition, farmers in the area were not aware of the advantages of using organic fertilizer, instead using commercial fertilizers at high prices.

How we worked together

The Animal Health training covered topics such as vaccination, deworming and minor surgery practices. For farmers, emphasis was placed on the benefits of organic fertilizer and how easy they are to make. The National Institute provided experienced instructors with over 10 years of experience for the two trainings. The costs for materials and logistics were shared with two neighbouring solar parks.

The Animal Health workshop has taught me to take better care of my livestock’s health and now I know how to deworm and vaccinate them.

Before I used to pay someone to do this.
